Improve Email Delivery in 3 Steps

Email Delivery

Your emails are useless unless they actually make it to the user’s inbox.

Think of it this way, if your emails are not getting delivered, then you are wasting a lot of money and time on email marketing.

Top 3 Ways to Improve Email Delivery

1 – Purge Your List

Stop sending email to non-existent users.  High email bounce rate can destroy your send credibility.  So, every now and then, remove all inactive recipients from your list, filtering out all users who have not opened or clicked your emails in a few months.

Research shows that if you have high hard bounce (invalid) rates, that this is the fastest way to trigger filtering and blocking on your IP.  One option is to use a service to clean up all hard bounces before you launch a fresh email marketing effort.

Also, email validation services and software can catch duplicates, typos, outdated domains, do-not-email records, bogus addresses, and other common user errors that should also be purged from your list.

Note that you are not going to lose anything by getting rid of emails that have not engaged with you.  It is time to cut the dead weight from your list.

2 – Stick to a Sending Schedule

Your clients and contacts actually gets use to the day and time that you send email to them.  You should stick with that schedule; especially if the timing is working for your email open rates.

However, if you are not maintaining a regular schedule with your emails, it can create send spikes; where contact are not prepared to receive and engage with you.  Which turns into lower email open rates.

3 – Check Your Blacklist Status

It is always a good idea to check if your domain for sending emails is on IP block lists.  Especially if you are experiencing problems sending emails, you should check that your domain has not been blocked.

There are DNS based block / blacklist setup to protect users from IPs that have received a high volume of spam reports.  Make sure that your IP is not on this list.  You can check your IP using MXToolbox.
