Americans Are Staying in Their Homes Longer

Living at Home

The typical American homeowner has lived in their current home for 13 years, according to data from Redfin, an increase from eight years back in 2010. And with homeowners staying put longer, the inventory of homes on the market continues to shrink. Even though all 55 U.S. metro areas saw an increase in home tenure, Salt Lake City topped the list with median home ownership of 23.4 years. Houston was a close second with 23.2 years.
